Principles and practice of biosafety training

This eLearning training is mandatory for all staff and postgraduate students undertaking genetic modification work, working with biological agents or working in a CL3 laboratory.

Course description


The Principles and Practice in Biosafety course is compulsory for all laboratory users, and specifically new staff and postgraduate students, undertaking work with infectious micro-organisms, including genetically modified micro-organisms and potentially infectious material (including cell cultures), and those working in a Containment Level 3 (CL3) laboratory.

This eLearning module provides a common understanding about sources of infection (including routes of transmission) and what could go wrong if controls are not used or are not used properly.

All safety instructor-led training courses are delivered by our team of safety experts.

Objectives


Completing this course will give you an awareness of the following.

  • Microbiology/micro-organisms.
  • Infection - including information about cases of laboratory-acquired infections.
  • The legal framework.

Target audience


This eLearning module is compulsory for all staff and postgraduate students undertaking work with infectious micro-organisms, including genetically modified micro-organisms and potentially infectious material (including cell cultures), and those working in a Containment Level 3 (CL3) laboratory.

Cost


Training courses are free to UCL staff however your Department will be charged £50 if you fail to attend when booked on a course.  Non-attendance at first aid courses will incur a higher non-attendance fee.

External delegates


Places to external delegates are only offered if there is spare capacity on an instructor-led course.
