Safe use of abrasive wheels training

This safe use of abrasive wheels training course is a practical session for anyone using, supervising and managing abrasive work equipment.

Course description


The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations require that all persons using, supervising and managing work equipment must receive adequate training for the purposes of health. The regulations require that abrasive wheels must be mounted and dressed by a competent person.

This course is a practical session and you will be required to bring your own Personal Protective Equipment in the form of safety glasses, boots/shoes and gloves.

All safety instructor-led training courses are delivered by our team of safety experts.

Objectives


On completion of this practical course, you will have gained an understanding of the legal requirements and be able to mount and balance abrasive wheels safely.

The course will cover the following elements:

  • Introduction to Health & Safety Law
  • Hazards arising from the use of abrasive wheels and the methods and precautions to take
  • Marking, storing, handling, and transporting
  • The functions of abrasive wheels components, methods of inspecting, mounting and testing, dressing and balancing and adjustments of abrasive wheels including adjustments of rests
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Target audience


All staff who select, mount, adjust and use abrasive wheels.

Cost


Training courses are free to UCL staff however your Department will be charged £50 if you fail to attend when booked on a course.  Non-attendance at first aid courses will incur a higher non-attendance fee.

Places to external delegates are only offered if there is spare capacity on an instructor-led course.
