Safety culture at UCL grows from strength to strength as first faculty reaches T100 milestone

What is T100?

Since its inception in 2018, the T100 programme has been a cornerstone of workplace safety at UCL. Designed as a three-tiered certification system, it challenges departments to continuously improve safety preparedness and cultivate leadership in health and safety practices.

Dr Joanna Carrington UCL’s Director of Health and Safety, lauded this achievement, saying: 

“MAPS has demonstrated how T100 and T100 Lite can be successfully implemented across the board. This milestone showcases leadership commitment to drive continual improvement, and benefits from a thriving safety culture. Congratulations to all MAPS departments and Professor Ivan Parkin — I look forward to seeing your ongoing success, especially with the coming of the UCL H&S Strategic Plan.”

Rachel Fairfax, UCL’s Head of Biological and Chemical Safety, highlighted T100’s transformative potential: 

“The T100 programme helps transition from basic safety compliance to a culture where safety is integrated into daily practices. This achievement is a step toward defining and exceeding UCL’s own safety standards.”

What comes next for Faculties that achieve the first level of T100?

Looking ahead in April, Safety Services will be launching T100 Level 2 across all High Hazard departments while supporting Low Hazard departments in embedding T100 Lite over the next 12-18 months. The ultimate goal being to integrate health and safety into day-to-day operations and decision making.
