Announcing the launch of our new virtual risk assessment training

29 August 2025

Safety Services launches "Risk Assessment at UCL" workshop — learn to identify hazards and mitigate risks effectively, creating a safer environment for all.

A close-up of a chessboard mid-game. This visual metaphor illustrates the dynamic process of risk assessment, where each piece (or hazard) must be evaluated, potential moves (or risks) anticipated, and counter-strategies (or controls) planned.

Whether you're in a lab, office, classroom, or workshop, understanding how to spot and manage hazards is essential — not just for compliance, but for genuinely protecting the wellbeing of you and your colleagues.

Risk management at UCL isn't about ticking boxes. It's about proactively identifying and tackling risks before they become real problems such as injuries, accidents, or health issues.

This workshop gives you the practical tools to make your environment safer for everyone.

What is the "Risk Assessment at UCL" Workshop?

This interactive, instructor-led session is 2 hours and 15 minutes of hands-on learning designed to equip you with the confidence and knowledge to carry out effective risk assessments at UCL.

You'll learn how to:

  • Clearly describe the activities, people, and locations involved in a risk scenario.
  • Use the UCL risk matrix and hierarchy of controls to assess and manage risks properly.
  • Plan, review, and get your assessments approved using the riskNET system.

How to enrol

The first session is scheduled for:

  • Date: Tuesday 16 September 2025
  • Time: 10:00 AM – 12:15 PM
