Safety Alert – Cryostat devices produced by Leica Biosystems

What is the issue?

All flammable freezing sprays can potentially ignite and cause serious injuries.  The flammability is indicated on the labelling of these sprays but cryostat labelling did not include any specific warning about usage of flammable freezing sprays prior to 2019.  Leica Biosystems have produced updated labelling for the affected devices, to add a clear visual reinforcement that no flammable freezing sprays should be used within the cryostat chamber.

Action to be taken

• If you have a Leica Biosystems cryostat follow the supplier's instructions to update the instrument labelling by printing off the warning symbol on to an adhesive label and adding it to the device as shown. 
• Add the safety amendment below to the cryostat's Instructions for Use (IFU).
