Target time for initial assessment
23 February 2022
In order to optimise incident management, the Work Health and Safety Committee has agreed for the target time for the Initial Assessment of reported incidents be reduced to 5 calendar days.
A key step in incident management is the capability to make an initial assessment of the potential future risk posed by an incident. The Initial Assessment helps guide the incident investigation process by suggesting the level of investigation needed. The greater the risk the more thorough the investigation should be.
The Initial Assessment asks that you judge the incident severity and the potential for incidents of this nature to reoccur in the future. It is not an onerous task and one that adds significant value to the investigation process and prevention of future accidents.
Action to take
The target time for the Initial Assessment of reported incidents in riskNET is reduced to 5 calendar days.
It is realised that there are occasions when this cannot be achieved and, in these instances, the reasons for this should be given in the incident record. Add your comments to the 'Additional (Post-Assessment) Comments' box which appears when you have completed the Initial Assessment.
