Paul is a Chartered Member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, a Certified Member of the Institute of Risk Management and a Member of the Institute of Industrial Accident Investigators. He also holds internationally recognised qualifications of the Office of Government Commerce in project and programme methodology.
Paul has proven experience at a senior level across many different industries, from the NHS, Celltech, London Underground Limited (LUL) and London Transport, Safeway Supermarkets, and the BBC before joining UCL in 2009.
In the last 12 years, Paul has strengthened the capabilities of Safety Services ensuring the appropriate levels of resource and competence across a broad range of topics including radiation, biological safety including GM, chemical safety, and construction.
In his career Paul has had a keen focus on safety management systems, having successfully proposed, through a robust business case, the need for a review of the LUL safety management system, Paul was appointed to London Transport as the Safety and Environmental Systems Manager for the re-design of the Safety Management System for LUL. Paul has continued this management system focus at UCL with the introduction of the Target 100 Programme
An organisation’s success depends on its ability to manage risk and prevent accidents and ill health due to its activities. Paul believes that a safety professional’s role is to work with the organisation to enable achievement of an organisation’s aspirations and objectives whilst being able to provide an accurate assessment of where the organisation might require improvement.
