Congratulations to Mark Pelling, Professor of Risk and Disaster Reduction, on being selected as one of the authors for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)'s Special Report on Climate Change and Cities. He was selected from over 1,200 expert nominations and is among 97 specialists who have been chosen to contribute to this landmark report.

Prof Pelling is an internationally recognised expert on climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction. His research focuses on urban contexts, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, where he works closely with community organisations, humanitarian NGOs and government policymakers. As Director of Tomorrow's Cities, which began as the UKRI GCRF Urban Disaster Risk Hub, he leads a global collaborative research programme tackling urban disaster risk through sustainable urbanisation.

The Special Report on Climate Change and Cities, scheduled for publication in March 2027, will provide critical insights to support climate action in cities worldwide, integrating scientific evidence with policy-relevant insights for urban decision-makers.
