IRDR success in UCL Awards
7 April 2022
Lecturers in the IRDR have appeared in a host of UCL education awards this month, demonstrating recognition of education excellence within the department.

Each year the Faculty of Mathematical & Physical Sciences recognises excellence in teaching from staff through the Faculty Education Awards. In this year's awards, Dr Punam Yadav won an Individual Excellence Award and Dr Joanna Faure Walker achieved Highly Commended.
These achievements were won in a strong field of nominations both for individual and team categories. The panel noted that they were very impressed with the range of teaching and assessment innovations, and the positive impact different staff have had on the student experience.
Further to this award, Dr Yadav has also been submitted by the Faculty as a nominee for the UCL Provost’s Education Award for Innovation and transformation.
Elsewhere, IRDR staff were also recognised with nominations in the UCL Student Choice Awards, which are run by the UCL Students’ Union, and voted for by students.
Appearing in the Roll of Honour were Dr Bayes Ahmed, nominated in the Active Student Partnership category; Dr Joanna Faure Walker and Mohammad Shamsudduha, nominated in the Exceptional Feedback category; and Professor Ilan Kelman, nominated in the Inspiring Teaching Delivery category.
Dr Faure Walker said: “I think this is a good reflection of the teaching in the department as a whole and shows some of the different aspects appreciated by students. It is also noteworthy that over the last two years, of the nine categories, we have received nominations within seven.”
"These awards name particular people, so particular well done to them, but we believe the continued success is a reflection of all the teaching excellence and great teaching initiatives within the department so thank you to all involved in teaching."
