Two new publications by the IRDR Cascading Disaster Research Group have been published online.
Understanding cascading risk is becoming a mainstream topic of research and practices. After two years of work, the flagship report "Science for DRM 2020: acting today protecting tomorrow" is now available online. The report was promoted by the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) and aims to provide specific recommendations for stakeholders that can actively contribute to reducing disaster risk including policymakers, practitioners (such as civil protection groups, critical infrastructure operators and organised civil groups), scientists and citizens.
The research group on cascading disasters contributed to section 3.4 "Critical infrastructures". Dr. Gianluca Pescaroli lead chapter 3.4.1 on "Emergency infrastructure and Facilities", co-authored by professors David Alexander and Virginia Murray.
