The Centre for Gender and Disaster celebrates its fourth anniversary on the 8th of March, an opportunity to reaffirm every year that the research we conduct and promote aims to tackle pervasive gender bias and inequality. This year, the campaign theme is #ChooseToChallenge

A challenged world is an alert world. From challenge comes change, so we choose to challenge sexism in academia and gender bias in research practice. We challenge the notion of gender equality as a value added aspect of projects rather than as a central goal. Our current work, through our flagship project GRRIPP, is connecting existing networks of scholars, policy makers and practitioners to promote gender and intersectionality in resilience thinking and planning, and to amplify their voices and experiences.
So this year, the Centre for Gender and Disaster also chooses to support other events and to show solidarity with our sister organisations supporting gender and racial equality, amplifying their messages and our common cause.
