Rethinking the vulnerability to cascading  events

Prof.David Alexander and Mr. Gianluca Pescaroli will give a presentation titled ‘Rethinking the vulnerability to cascading events” at the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission in Ispra, Italy, next 25th November. The seminar is organised within the framework of the Complex Networks initiative at the Joint Research Centre.

This presentation will address cascading disasters in complex systems, taking into account aspects such as networked risks, ecological and cross border crises, interconnected hazards and compound events. Toppling dominoes, chain and escalating effects will be contextualised though case studies.  Conclusions will include considerations about policy implications, contingency planning, adaptation and response methods.
