A key initiative of the Research Culture Programme, the Research Culture Toolkit aims to support everyone involved in research at UCL build positive research culture practices.


Whether you're preparing a grant application, planning a departmental initiative, or seeking to understand and improve research culture in your area, this Toolkit can support you. It also underpins the Research Culture Roadmap.

It is designed to:

  • Equip Research Culture champions, academic leaders, and professional services staff with practical tools to foster local change;
  • Provide tailored support on strategic priorities such as the REF 2029 People, Culture & Environment (PCE) narrative;
  • Help researchers confidently integrate Research Culture and EDI considerations into funding proposals;
  • Enable a sustainable, scalable approach to culture change across the institution.
