Open Research Programme

This programme drives projects on training, recognition, sharing best practices, and evaluation, supporting UCL’s Research Culture Roadmap to embed openness in research and innovation.

About 

UCL is a key collaborator in the UKRN Open Research Programme and one of a consortium of 24 institutional members of the UK Reproducibility Network (UKRN) to receive a proportion of the £4.5 million programme funding from the Research England Development Fund.   

The Open Research Programme Growing and Embedding Open Research in Institutional Practice and Culture’ launched in 2023 and comprises of the development and delivery of four different and interlinked projects, covering Training; Open and Responsible Researcher Reward and Recognition; Sharing and Integrating; and Evaluation Design. The projects involve: 

  • Building institutional capacity via the Train-the-Trainer project
  • Supporting institutions as they reform reward and recognition of open research practices
  • Enabling institutions by sharing and learning from policies and practices elsewhere
  • Providing institutions with evaluation tools to support planning
  • Developing a long-term management and sustainability model to continue this activity 

Alignment with UCL’s Research Culture Roadmap

The Open Research Programme is one of the UCL’s Research Culture Core projects, aligning closely with themes 3 and 4 of the UCL's Research Culture Roadmap.

These themes focus on creating opportunities for collaboration and innovation, as well as promoting openness and integrity in research and innovation respectively. By supporting the Roadmap’s strategic goals, the programme enhances UCL's institutional efforts to advance research culture.
