The UCL Research Progression Award

UCL has received funding from Research England to support ODA-compliant research projects addressing challenges facing low- and middle-income countries (LMIC).

An internal call for research projects will be run as a competitive process, aligned to International Science Partnerships Fund (ISPF) research themes and open to all disciplines across UCL, which must fulfil the requirements of ODA research. The UCL Research Progression Award aims to fund new research projects, increase success in future ISPF funding calls, develop UCL’s strategic thematic aims and foster overseas partnerships. The call is open to early and mid-career academics to provide this cohort with support to gain a greater level of autonomy in their own research.  Professorial staff are not eligible to apply to this call.

For full eligibility details and to find out who can apply, please visit the Call Guidance (TCs) page for all you need to know.

Applications should address one or more of the following ISPF Themes:

  • Resilient Planet – Leading the green industrial revolution to protect the planet.
  • Transformative Technologies – Developing responsible technologies to secure our place in tomorrow’s world.
  • Healthy People, Animals and Plants – Researching and Innovating for secure and healthy populations.
  • Tomorrow’s Talent – Nurturing talent to drive inclusion, research, and innovation.

Funds must be for a new activity (not activity that has already happened or that is, in substance, covered by other research funds). The new proposal can build upon outcomes or activities from a previous or ongoing projects.

Activity must be ODA compliant. Any activity which does not meet ODA eligibility will immediately be classed as ineligible. Click here to find out if your research is ODA compliant.
