New Chair announced for UCL’s Research Culture Community Steering Group

26 May 2026

Prof. Saloni Krishnan has been appointed as the new Chair of UCL’s Research Culture Community Steering Group (CSG).

Saloni Krishnan

Saloni Krishnan is Professor of Developmental Language Science in UCL’s Faculty of Brain Sciences, and Research Lead at the Department of Language and Cognition.

The CSG brings together a cross-section of UCL’s research community, and plays an important role in guiding and overseeing activity that supports a healthy and sustainable research culture.

Launched in 2024 and comprising more than 200 members, the CSG works alongside the Research Culture Programme Board, which provides strategic oversight and governance for the Research Culture Programme.

As Chair, Saloni will work closely with CSG members, the Research Culture team and institutional leadership to support meaningful and community-informed culture change across the institution.

The role will also help ensure that the lived experiences of the research community continue to shape institutional approaches to research culture at UCL.

Prof. Saloni Krishnan said: “I believe a collegiate, inclusive, and diverse research environment enables us to produce our best research with the widest societal impact. I’m excited to work with CSG members, the Research Culture team, and the wider UCL research community to help create an environment where people can thrive and do their best work.”

Emma Todd, Director of Research Culture, said: “I'm delighted to welcome Saloni as Chair of the Community Steering Group. The CSG plays a vital role in shaping and championing our Research Culture at UCL, and I’m confident that Saloni’s leadership will help build on the strong foundation built over the past two years. I’m looking forward to working together to continue growing the group’s impact and engagement.”

The appointment follows the successful inaugural tenure of Dr Natalie Marchant, whose leadership helped establish the CSG as an important space for dialogue, collaboration and community voice in shaping research culture at UCL. Natalie will continue to contribute to the group as a CSG Core Member and alumni representative.
