Our simplified policy and guidance site makes planning overseas research and fieldwork easier and helps researchers ensure they're policy-compliant.

UCL researchers conducting research abroad, or as part of an international collaboration, need to be aware of the different legal, financial and cultural requirements when working overseas.  Planning overseas research can be a very daunting, and sometimes confusing, process.

In order to help UCL researchers comply with all the different requirements, we have created a roadmap that sets out the processes involved in planning and conducting international research; bringing them together in a single, easy to follow resource with our Overseas Research RoadmapIt aims to make it simpler for researchers who are planning overseas research, to source the advice, guidance and policies that they may need to consider. Equally, it helps researchers find the information they need to ensure their work complies with UCL’s requirements. We would be interested in your ideas and suggestions for further improvements; if you have any feedback, please contact the Research Integrity team.

We would also like to bring to your attention additional new guidance that has been recently updated on UCL Ethics Guidance page, including Research With Children And Young People, which helps guide researchers who are planning and conducting research involving children, and Reporting an illegal activity - When to disclose? which provides guidance for researchers on legal obligations for reporting illegal activities that you have learned about as a result of your research.
