Join our Early Career Researcher Coordinating Group
Are you a UCL social science Early Career Researcher (ECR) with an interest in collaborative research such as research methods, collaborative practice, careers support, etc.? If so, we have a career development opportunity for you.
We are recruiting five to seven Early Career Researchers (ECRs) who will join our Coordinating Group. The group will formulate and organise a cross-UCL and cross disciplinary activity programme. This programme will engage your fellow ECRs who also possess an interest in collaborative social science research. The ECR Coordinating Group complements, and works alongside, the Domain’s PhD Coordinating Group
What do we mean by "Early Career Researcher"
We take Early Career Researchers to mean researchers (inclusive of Teaching Fellows undertaking research) who are 1) Immediately post-doctorate (early stage ECR) or 2) Transitioning to independent researcher (usually up to 6 years from PhD award).
Commitment and role
This role is a commitment of min 1 hour a week (1/2 day a month), and involves:
- Attending ECR Coordinating Group meetings with our Steering Group ECR Champion (currently Professor Emily Dawson, Science and Technology Studies)
- Initiating, organising and coordinating the programme of activities. We aim to hold an event or other activity once every two months
- Promoting the visibility of the CSSD domain to other UCL ECRs and domain ECR groups
The group is supported by the Domain’s Chair, the Steering Group ECR Champion and the Strategic Coordinator

Who can apply
- UCL-based social science scholars from any dept or faculty. We use the UKRI definition of social science which includes a broad range of disciplines
- Early career researchers (inclusive of Teaching Fellows undertaking research) who are 1) Immediately post-doctorate (early stage ECR) or 2) Transitioning to independent researcher (usually up to 6 years from PhD award
- Researchers participating or interested in collaborative research across the various social sciences, and/or with the natural or applied sciences or humanities
- Individuals with the ability to commit a min. of 1 hour a week to the role
