We provide applications to support projects throughout the research lifecycle: from innovation and funding through to publication and finding real-world applications for research outcomes.
One of our key objectives is to help promote UCL researchers and their work to a global audience. This means supporting free and open access to research outputs, providing information about research activity and highlighting the global impact of this work.
We are responsible for IRIS, a searchable database of all UCL researchers and their work; and RPS/UCL Discovery, which helps researchers to manage their online publication records and make the full text available in UCL's Open Access Repository. In addition we also support UCL's Research Equipment Catalogue, which encourages different research groups to share equipment and collaborate.
Institutional Research Information Service (IRIS)
IRIS is a one-stop shop for information on research activity at UCL. It provides free and open access to UCL researcher profiles. Every researcher at UCL has a profile on IRIS to which they can add information about themselves and their work such as:
- an overview of their research interests and background
- details of specific projects they are working on
- other researchers they collaborate with
- professional awards and achievements
Anyone can use IRIS to find an expert in a given subject area at UCL, or use it to identify potential collaborators with similar or complementary interests.
Research Publications Service (RPS) and UCL Discovery
RPS is a tool to help UCL researchers manage their publications in line with UCL's Publications Policy. Individual publication lists managed through RPS form part of the profiles on IRIS and are also available through the free and open institutional repository, UCL Discovery. RPS also facilitates Open Access publication by allowing researchers to upload the full text of their publications to UCL Discovery.
UCL Research Equipment Catalogue
The UCL Research Equipment Catalogue is an online searchable database containing information about all of UCL's major research equipment and facilities.
UCL researchers can view information about each equipment item (such as technical specifications and availability) and use an enquiry form to contact the equipment owner. Researchers can also browse by department, facility and manufacturer or use a free-text search.
