Anthony Davis

We are delighted to welcome book collector Anthony Davis to this session to talk about how he started as a collector and to show a selection of items from his collection of book bindings. We'll also include some examples of book bindings from UCL's rare-book collections.

Collectors of the future

Anthony Davis has encouraged generations of students to develop their own collections of books, manuscripts and ephemera, always emphasising that you don't need a lot of money to build a coherent and significant collection. His support and inspiration is evident in each year's applications to the Anthony Davis Book Collecting Prize: you can hear from the 2023 finalists at our events in this series on 5 July and 16 August.

Whether you have a passion for book bindings, are wondering how to get started as a collector or develop your collection further, or are just interested in seeing some wonderful books, drop in for a chat.

UCL Rare-Books Club aims to promote UCL’s Special Collections for research, and to facilitate conversations between curators, research students and professional researchers working on the collections, but sessions are open to all. They are programmed and chaired by Dr. Tabitha Tuckett, UCL Rare-Books And Academic Liaison Librarian. Sessions take place weekly on Wednesdays in July, August and early September. Details of the full programme will be posted on our UCL Rare-Books Club Eventbrite Listings
