Research funder policy update

30 April 2021

Research funders regularly update their terms and conditions of funding. Review the latest changes to our major funders.

Research Funder Policy Update

UK Research and Innovation

UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) have updated its full economic cost (fEC) grant terms and conditions and training grant terms and conditions. The updates reflect new statutory requirements that came into effect on 1 January 2021.

If your department apply for or hold UKRI funding via its Research Councils, we strongly recommend that you regularly familiarise yourself with the latest terms and conditions to ensure your department are compliant across your portfolio.

EPSRC and MRC: Changes to contribution rates – equipment costs

From 1 April 2021, the EPSRC and MRC will contribute up to 80% of the full purchase price of equipment, where equipment is an eligible cost item. This is a change from previous contribution rates, where HEIs were expected to support a minimum of 50% of the full purchase price of equipment and is being implemented for a trial period of 12 months.

Advanced budgeters should reflect the current funder contribution rates in Worktribe costings through a custom cost/price to Funder in the Equipment budget line. Your dedicated Pre-Award Research Officer can also provide assistance in ensuring costs are accurately reflected in applications.
