Thank you to our wonderful supporters for sharing stories with Reading Recovery children and their friends during our month of celebrating reading.

Alan Durant reads his book, Quill Soup.
Noko the porcupine is very hungry. On arriving at a village, he asks the other animals for some food and shelter. But, despite their full bellies, all the animals say they have nothing to spare. Never mind: he'll just have to make do and cook a pot of soup from the quills off his back - a soup so tasty even the king likes it.  Listen here

Elaine C Smith is a Scottish actress and comedian.  She translated the story of The Gruffalo into the Glasgow dialect. Listen to her reading her story here.

Elaine watched some Reading Recovery lessons and said:
I was absolutely astounded to see the progression of the children in the Reading Recovery programme. As they sat reading to me, sounding like any other 5 or 6 year old reading, I couldn’t believe that only months before these children had been classed as "non readers”. Reading Recovery is a vital tool to help address the inequalities that a lack of literacy, and particularly reading, are to too many children and their families.
