Marie Clay (1926-2007), the founder of Reading Recovery, had a passionate belief in the potential of 'ordinary' teachers to achieve extraordinary things through professional learning.
Marie Clay Professional Learning Fund bursaries
In her honour we established the Marie Clay Professional Learning Fund. This provides bursaries, up to a total of £2,000 annually, to enable Reading Recovery teachers or teacher leaders to attend national or international professional development events.
To date, 136 Reading Recovery teachers and 14 Reading Recovery teacher leaders have benefited from participation in literacy-based conferences around the world.
- Who can apply?
All applicants must be accredited and working as either a Reading Recovery teacher or Teacher Leader within England, Republic of Ireland, Jersey, Guernsey, Scotland, Malta or Denmark at the time of application, and should not have received a MCPLF bursary within the past five years. Applications cannot be made retrospectively.
- How to apply?
Simply complete and return the downloadable application form. Two referee forms supporting your application should accompany your submission. Please note the bursary applications for 2020 are now closed. Reading Recovery professionals can apply for the bursary again next academic year.
Reading Recovery teachers, teacher leaders and even parents already take part in regular fundraising events. You can be as imaginative as you like, whether you run a marathon or shave your head, have a curry night or a summer tea party; whatever your fundraising plans the outcome will be the same, your efforts will make a tangible difference to many children needing our support.
- Donate to Marie Clay Professional Learning Fund
We will use your money to ensure that Reading Recovery teachers or teacher leaders can continue their professional development, so that they can offer children struggling with literacy the best chance of catching up with their classmates.
