Each year, Reading Recovery is narrowing the gap for disadvantaged and other pupils in the school.

Reading Recovery has been an important part of the school’s teaching practices since its introduction in 2010, and has enabled Longshaw to raise pupils’ outcomes above national literacy standards, despite the prevalence of disadvantage in its community.
- 92% live in wards which are classed as being in the bottom 25% nationally.
- 73% are in wards in the bottom 10%,
- 43% in wards in the bottom 5% and
- 2% in wards which are in the bottom 1% of the country (IDAC).
“Data show that 86% of pupils were assessed to be at or above age-related expectations in reading at the end of Key Stage 1 (2019 National Average 75%). The gap between disadvantaged and other pupils in the school is narrowing each year and currently 76% of disadvantaged pupils are working at or above national expectations.
