IRDR Careers and Opportunities Fair, 1st March 2017, 5-8pm

UCL IRDR will hold its annual Careers and Opportunities Fair on 1st March 2017, 5:00pm until 8:00pm, where we will present career and other opportunities in Risk and Disaster Reduction.

5:00 - 6:00pm: Talks and Q&A Session, Darwin Lecture Theatre 

6:00 - 8:00pm: Exhibitor stalls and refreshments in the Roberts Foyer 

The opportunities presented will include job opportunities in the commercial, humanitarian, and governance sectors, volunteering and internship opportunities, postgraduate study, and involvement in student societies. 

The speaker panel will include: 

* Sophie Allen from Rescue Global on career opportunities and career paths in the NGO sector in disaster risk reduction and in disaster response 

* Dr Ilan Kelman, UCL IRDR and UCL IGH, on postgraduate study and academic career opportunities in Risk and Disaster Reduction 

* Elodie Huet, UCL IRDR alumna and business continuity consultant at Arup, on finding commercial sector opportunities in business continuity

* Sophie Donoghue, UCL IRDR alumna and Resilience Office at Hertfordshire County Council on finding risk management and resilience roles in the public sector

People and skills for disaster relief

RedR UK is an international humanitarian capacity-building NGO. We provide training, coaching and mentoring, and technical support to give people the skills to prepare for, and respond to, disasters and emergencies worldwide. In 2016, we trained 6,714 people in 41 countries.

We work with international and national NGOs, UN agencies, academic institutions, think tanks and the private sector to improve emergency response at a global level.

For those looking to enter the humanitarian sector, RedR offers the opportunity to join our Affiliates scheme, which provides access to training, mentoring programmes, job opportunities and networking events with experienced humanitarians.

Rescue Global

RESCUE GLOBAL'S MISSION IS TO SAVE LIFE

Engineers without borders are an international development organisation that removes barriers to development through engineering. Geology for Global Development

Geology for Global Development is an organisation that aims to educate geoscientists about the role of geology in the reduction of poverty. It encompasses a wide range of disciplines within the field of Earth sciences; from geochemistry and hydrogeology, to geophysics and structural geology. All of these play a vital role in international development and improving the standard of living around the world. 

Being part of the UCL GfGD group offers an alternative viewpoint on how geology can be applied. You are invited to attend talks from researchers, NGOs and experts in the relevant fields.

Global Network of Civil Society Organisations for Disaster Reduction

The Global Network of Civil Society Organisations was established in 2007 to help reduce disaster risk caused by extreme hazards and disturbances and support the transition to a safer more resilient society. Network members include 1000 civil society organisations and associations, primarily national and local practitioners working at the sub-national and national levels in 137 countries across virtually every geographical region of the world. Our members are bound by a commitment to voluntarily work together in a mutually supportive way, supported by a global Secretariat and governance arrangements that creates bridges across regions and links the local, national and regional to global levels.
