UCLQ Secondments

12 May 2014

Pairing old technologies with new for next generation electronic devices

The UCL Quantum Science and Technology Institute (UCLQ) welcomes proposals to support UCL staff working in this field and wishing to promote their engagement in knowledge transfer, through secondments with companies, social enterprises, charities and other non-academic organisations.

Placements can range from a week up to three months and are expected to have the intention to lead to joint research publications. Visits that include activities to engage with the wider research community at UCL and beyond are encouraged.

Applications are open to all UCL researchers.

Level of Funding

The UCLQ will contribute funds toward travel, subsistence and accommodation expenses for the secondee. It is expected that each placement costs no more than £5,000, although higher budgets will be considered in exceptional cases.

Please note that all projects need to end (i.e. the placements need to be completed) by 31st March 2015

Criteria

Projects will be prioritised based on their identifiable impact or the building of longer-term research partnerships.. Impacts will be monitored through identifiable and measurable outcomes e.g. new jobs, public engagement, scientific dissemination and follow-on activity e.g. business start-ups and/or new collaborations with clear potential for IP development and/or development of longer- term research partnerships. The prospective benefits to project stakeholders (e.g. secondee, UCL, external partner) will all be considered.

Application process and deadline

Proposals must consist of a completed application form (see below) as well as the CV of the applicant. The application should be accompanied by a pFACT costing, completed using the “Charities – Direct Costs only” template specifying an end date on or before 31 March 2015.  The start date should be on or after 15 June 2014.

Proposals should be submitted via email to Samantha Gan ( s.gan@ucl.ac.uk ) by 5pm 30thMay 2014. All proposals will be evaluated by a panel comprising academics working in this field. All applicants will be notified of the decision by Friday 13th June.
