Research Interests

My interests centre around the use of the spins of donor impurities in silicon as qubits in a quantum computer. One of the key features of a universal quantum computer will be its ability to detect and correct errors as they occur. Most error correction schemes are founded upon the concept of stabiliser measurements - effectively parity checks on neighbouring qubits. The aim of my research is to design a spin based, optically read out mechanical probe qubit that could potentially be used to perform parity checks on groups of data qubits.

Interesting fact

I once had to be airlifted out of the Grand Canyon after I fell over on a beach playing tag.
