Sam Evans is the Director of UCL Qatar and a senior member of UCL's Global Engagement Office in London, UK.  He is responsible for managing UCL Qatar, a leading centre of teaching and research excellence in the study of cultural heritage, and overseeing the strong developing partner and stakeholder relationships with Qatar Foundation, Qatar Museums, the Hamad Bin Khalifa University and the international campuses operating in Qatar's Education City as part of UCL's Global Engagement Strategy

With a diverse and extensive publications record, Dr Evans has held a range of academic, research and visiting appointments in the UK and Europe, and joins UCL from his last post as a policy Deputy Director in a UK Department of State.

Dr Evans was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) and subsequently elevated to Commander of the same Order (CBE). He was awarded the US Bronze Star Medal by the President of the United States of America for meritorious service.

Dr Evans holds two PhDs in Environmental Sciences and Plant Biochemistry, an MA in Archaeology and Anthropology Tripos from the University of Cambridge, a University Diploma in Italian and is a graduate from the UK Defence Academy's prestigious Royal College of Defence Studies.
