Inequalities

Our roundtable responses seek to understand the impacts of widening inquality in the UK, and how research can support effective policy interventions.

Inequality in the UK - evidence and interventions

The causes and impacts of inequality are complex, and policy responses designed to address them need to account for a number of interlinked factors. UCL Public Policy brings together academic expertise from across a broad range of disciplines to understand these issues and offer new insight to help policymakers develop effective responses which can lift people out of poverty and enable greater prosperity.

Cost of living crisis mini-commission

In partnership with Tortoise Media and UCL Public Policy, a panel of experts, led by the IOE's Professor Anne Phoenix, drew a detailed picture of how the cost of living crisis has affected people living in the UK, and what it means for public services. The commission sought to go beyond examining economic policy responses, to ask how an intersectional approach – thinking across different departments and across social groups – could impact government policy when reacting to the cost-of-living crisis? Structurally Unsound

UCL Public Policy has been working with the Resolution Foundation since 2019 to explore the underlying social factors that have an impact on disadvantaged communities, including access to education, employment and health care. This ongoing partnership has led to the production of a report, Structurally Unsound - Exploring Inequalities, as well as a follow-up commission, Structurally Unsound Five Years On.
