Announcing the new Newham Policy Fellows
16 April 2024
We are excited to be strengthening UCL’s partnership with Newham Borough Council by launching a knowledge exchange Policy Fellowship scheme.

UCL Public Policy is delighted to have funded two UCL researchers as policy fellows to be embedded within Newham's Research and Inclusion Team and Public Health Team respectively.
Dr Meena Khatwa, Senior Research Fellow at the UCL Social Research Institute, based in the EPPI Centre (Evidence for Policy and Practice Information) will be working with Anne Bowers at the Public Health Team at Newham. She will be examining the charity Blossom House's database which evidences the barriers and enablers to South Asian women seeking support for their mental and emotional well-being. This research will inform the policy and practice around supporting South Asian women with their emotional and mental well-being.
Dr Indraneel Sircar, Lecturer in Quantitative Research Methods and Political Science in the Department of Political Science will be working with Catherine Fitzgerald in the Research and Inclusion Team. He will be reviewing past approaches to citizen assemblies held in Newham with the aim of proposing models for the borough to increase citizen engagement in local policy making.
Their fellowships will take place between April and July. If you are interested in our fellowship programme, take a look at our webpages and look out for future opportunities on our newsletter and social media.
