Professor Ruth Morgan, director of the UCL Centre for the Forensic Sciences, has been appointed as the Specialist Adviser to the House of Lords Science and Technology Committee for their new inquiry into forensic science.

The inquiry has been launched following concerns being raised about the state of forensic science in the UK and will look at the strengths and weaknesses of forensic science and the contribution it makes to the delivery of justice in the UK.

Professor Morgan said "It's incredibly encouraging that the inquiry is taking place. Forensic science is a field that faces significant challenges, many of which are not widely known. The inquiry is addressing strategic issues around the use of forensic science in the criminal justice system."
