About us

We believe that by listening to and collaborating with people outside of UCL, we can improve our research and teaching to make a greater impact and create positive change.

UCL Co-Production and Public Engagement is part of UCL Library, Culture, Collections and Open Science (LCCOS). The team is here to help you collaborate with external groups, institutions and communities.

With a focus on two-way, mutually beneficial approaches, we're here to help regardless of your career stage, background or experience. Our work focuses on removing the barriers that UCL staff and students may face when undertaking co-production and public engagement projects and supporting you to design and deliver the best possible activities.

Our team formed in 2023, when UCL’s public engagement unit and Co-Production Collective at UCL joined forces to create a team which better responds to the changing higher education funding landscape. UCL’s Public Engagement Unit and Co-Production Collective at UCL were formed in 2009 and 2017 respectively, and both teams are known for their sector-leading approaches. We’re excited to see what we can achieve together.

Our strategy: 2026 - 2028

Our vision is that public engagement at UCL will be a connected, inclusive, and embedded process - aligned with strategic priorities, supported by shared understanding and best practice, and integrated into professional development for all staff and students.

Our team will work across disciplines to bring together knowledge, skills and expertise in public engagement across the university.

This is an interim strategy for 2026-2028, focusing on some of the more practical aspects of public engagement support while we transition to a longer-term vision for the future. It was created in consultation with over 50 members of the UCL community and key external partners.
