Psychoanalysis for Beginners - Clinical Seminar

Building on the interest generated by the Interdisciplinary seminar series that ran from 2009 to 2012, the Psychoanalysis Centre is now offering a series of monthly seminars where those with no knowledge of clinical psychoanalysis will have the opportunity to discuss what psychoanalysts do in the consulting room when they do psychoanalysis. The seminar series revealed how much research informed by psychoanalysis is currently being done at UCL and has led to further collaboration between members of the Centre and staff and students from other subject areas.  This new series will build on the curiosity shown by attendees of the Interdisciplinary seminar series about the practice of psychoanalysis and is suitable for participants with no previous experience of, but an interest in, psychoanalysis.

Each seminar will have a brief introduction covering use of the couch, frequency of sessions, and working in the transference after which participants will focus on some clinical material and discuss how the material can be understood along with the informing assumptions of the analyst and what the material shows about the psychoanalytic way of working.

The seminar will run from 6.00-7.30pm and will be held at Torrington Place. The seminar leader will be Dr Lesley Caldwell
