Thinking About the Family: A Psychoanalytic Approach

Tutors: With Marion Bower, adult psychotherapist and Madeleine Woof, couple and individual psychoanalytic psychotherapist Couples and individuals in therapy are often preoccupied with problems with partners or children. There is a temptation to take this at face value and possibly offer advice. This workshop will show how these communications can be understood as transference communications about the therapy and it will explore how to develop effective interventions. All concepts will be illustrated with clinical examples.

Echoes of the Nursery: Sibling Tranferences in the Adult Couple Relationship

Date: 25 September 2015

Tutors: Stella Vaines, Psychoanalytic Couple Psychotherapist and Jean Pennant, Couple Counsellor and Psychosexual Therapist This workshop explores how 'sibling oedipal triangles' interact with the child's oedipal relationship with its parents and examines the way this can affect partner choice, how feelings and behaviours towards siblings get lived out in the adult couple relationship, and how this informs the way we think about the transference to the therapist.
