Depression Inside Out: Psychoanalytic therapies as mental health provisions

Abstract
A joint Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust and UCL
Psychoanalysis Unit Conference
There is a growing body of evidence that supports the benefit of psychoanalytic treatments of patients with a range of depressive disorders presenting at different points of the life-cycle.
Beginning with main presentations, this Working Event will offer the evidence for a wider developmental and whole person approach to depression and allied disorders, and improving research and the treatment services as well.
A unique mix of clinical and research presentations will follow: on chronicity, suicidality, manic functioning, mothers, time-limited work with adolescents, variations in responsiveness, the specificity of psychoanalytic change, improving how evidence is evaluated, applying psychoanalytic ideas on psychosis wards and finally, to death as a difficult fact of life. A closing plenary will discuss the model.
