FUNDING FOR RESEARCH STUDENTS

The UCL School of Life and Medical Sciences (SLMS) offers funding for MPhil/PhD students to attend conferences and external training courses

If you wish to apply please read through the guidelines on the Faculty website, download and complete the relevant form and email to the Programme Administrator who will help you to submit the application. The funding is awarded on a matched basis with 50% from SLMS and 50% from the PhD programme.

ETHICAL APPROVAL FOR RESEARCH

- On the PhD Moodle site there is a step-by-step PowerPoint guide created by one of our current students which you may find useful to follow -

PhD students undertaking empirical studies involving participants must submit their research plans for Ethical approval. It is imperative that all research conforms to agreed ethical standards.

In the first instance, please familiarise yourself with the Divisions' intranet page for Ethics and Data Protection.

In all cases the Primary supervisor is the applicant not the student so the forms need to be completed with the supervisor.

COMPUTER FACILITIES

Desk space for PhD students

There is an office for full-time Psychoanalytic Studies PhD students based at the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families. Students are assigned a computer and access to printers. If you would like to use these facilities please email the Programme Administrator.

Computer Work Rooms

UCL's Information Services Division (ISD) offers computing facilities to all students and manages work rooms at various locations throughout the campus.

Use of Email

All students are given a UCL e-mail account via ISD. It is strongly advised that students check their email account regularly as it is where all communications are sent in regards to PhD assessment, student records and fees and funding. It is also essential for accessing PEPWeb from home, accessing reading materials on Moodle, the UCL Library, your student record on Portico, the Research Log and other online services, including the Doctoral School skills training courses.

Passwords cannot be issued over the phone unless you are registered for the User Authentication Service. We strongly advise that you register for this service so that you can update your password remotely.

PORTICO

Access to your student record is via the PORTICO web portal. You will need your UCL user id and password to log-in. You can edit your own personal data, and access a record of your financial transactions and assessments. It is essential that you keep your contact address up-to-date especially on completion of the PhD as the Research Degrees department in the Registry will use these details for your final award.
