The annual A. R. Jonckheere lecture entitled ‘An Integrative Theory of Human Reasoning: Modelling the Physical and Social World’ was be delivered by Professor Mike Oaksford (Birkbeck, University of London) in the Roberts Building on Thursday 12th September at 5.30pm.

Prof Oaksford is one of the foremost experts on the psychology of reasoning and is the author (with Chater) of Rationality in an Uncertain World (1998) and Bayesian Rationality (2007).

The lecture was hosted by the Division of Psychology and Language Sciences and was followed by a reception in the Roberts Building Foyer.

11/07/2013 CEHP Congratulations to Lucy Foulkes (PhD student supervised by Essi Viding and Eamon McCrory) who recently won the ‘UCL 2 Minute Thesis’ competition, beating 30 postgraduate students from other UCL departments. Lucy received the £200 prize for her talk “Social kicks and psychopaths".

PALS The Division has been awarded the Green Impact Silver Award ... and won the Energy Saving Idea Award!
ICN Professor Nilli Lavie was a contributor on an episode of BBC Horizon. The program provided an insight into the high pressure (high load) environment of the operating theatre, and attempts to delineate the factors which lead to surgeon error. The Horizon programme was shown on Thursday 21st March at 9pm.
PALS The BBC investigates the quietest room at UCL. "The room that sucks out sound", the Anechoic Chamber. BBC Reporter Mike Williams talks to Dr Steven Nevard, the Experimental Officer responsible for the Anechoic Chamber at UCL.
ICN UCL’s Professor Uta Frith was the subject of a special profile in the Observer and was a guest on Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs. Her warmth of character and her love of science, in particular her specialism in understanding autism, shone through.
05/02/2013 ICN Professor Uta Frith (UCL Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience) was appointed as an honorary Dame Commander of the British Empire in recognition of her outstanding scientific career.
05/02/2013 CEHP Professor Peter Fonagy (UCL PALS) received the 2013 British Psychological Society Lifetime Achievement Award. News of the award can be found here.
Professor Sophie Scott, (UCL Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience) received the Provost's Award for Public Engagement. Professor Scott was recognised for her participation and leadership in a range of public engagement activities, from stand-up comedy to the Royal Society’s Summer Science Exhibition. Sophie is a figurehead for public engagement and has worked hard to empower colleagues to participate

10/12/2012 PALS Dr Chris Donlan has been awarded an Honorary Fellowship of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists in recognition of his work for and with the profession. 
13/11/2012 CEHP Professor Mary Target and Dr Nick Midgley (UCL Clinical, Educational & Health Psychology) talk about the legacy of Anna Freud on the 60th anniversary of the centre she established. Listen: BBC R4’s All in the Mind
Dr Frances Rice received an MRC Centenary Award. The award was launched by the MRC to mark its 100 years, supporting the very best of its early career researchers to accelerate their research and their career development. The award will serve as a top-up to her MRC new investigator award “neurocognitive predictors of adolescent depression.”  
Professor Valerie Hazan volunteered to be part of the security team at the Olympics. Professor Hazan has wanted to be part of the the Games since she was a child. Read more on this page.
PALS Mary Wykes, from the Divisional Finance Team, volunteered to assist at the Olympic Games, which were held in London in August 2012. Mary has described her experience as a 'rare opportunity'.
24/07/2012 PALS Bencie Woll and Chris Brewin have both been elected Fellows of the British Academy. This is a very high honour. Additionally two of our Alumni, Ol Braddick and Nick Chater have also been elected.
