Research Interests

My PhD focuses on medication management and shared decision making in Early Intervention for Psychosis (EIP). Shared Decision Making (SDM) is recommended in recent NICE guidelines for all forms of healthcare, but implementation in mental health care and for medication management has thus far been slow. Early Intervention for Psychosis Services (EIPS) provide fertile ground for SDM for medication in first service contacts and early medication use, as they are oriented towards recovery and optimising service user engagement. Through qualitative methods, including ethnographic observation and semi structured interviews, I aim to explore the medication journey for users of EIP services, to inform future development and implementation of SDM in medication management in all mental health services.

My project is jointly funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and North East London NHS Foundation Trust (NEFLT). I am supervised by Dr Nicola Morant and Dr Joanna Moncrieff.
