People from minority ethnic communities seek help at a later stage for dementia and may therefore experience worse outcomes. Dr. Mukadam was funded by a four year NIHR Doctoral Research Training Fellowship to develop and test an intervention to encourage people from the South Asian community to seek help earlier for memory problems. She spoke to members of the South Asian community and used their input to develop a leaflet in Bengali and English and a video in English, Bengali and Sylheti, outlining the benefits of seeking help as soon as possible for memory problems. A pilot Randomised Controlled Trial of the intervention found that it was feasible to recruit participants and that the intervention was acceptable. The resources she developed are available here
