Rocio Roji

I was qualified in Medicine in 2003 at the University of Navarra in Spain. Specialist in Family Medicine and Primary Health Care (via MIR) in 2007.

My early career was spent working as a physician in the Home Support Team of the Palliative Care Unit of San Juan de Dios Hospital in Pamplona - Spain, from 2007 to 2013. 

More than 6 years of experience working in a multidisciplinary team, serving patients with oncological diseases and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. Physical presence guards for admission and hospitalized patients in the Geriatrics, Internal Medicine, Surgery and Palliative Care Services. Continuous telephone service of patients in the program. Advice to other professionals who treat patients at the end of life. Active participation and special interest in teaching given to students, residents, professionals and the general population.

Master degree in Palliative Care in 2009 at University of Barcelona and Medical Ethics Expert in 2013 from National Physicians College Association - Ortega-Marañón Fundation in Madrid.

I work as a collaborating physician in the Palliative Medicine Department of University of Navarra Hospital since January 2014. I give Supportive Care and Symptom Management for inpatients and outpatients from different services (Oncology, Nephrology, Neurology and others).  Also as a collaborating Physician on guard of the Emergency Department. Never stop working on call at Emergency Service or inpatients urgent attendance in the hospitals where I worked.

I was awarded a PhD in July 2018 in Neuroscience and Cognition PhD program at University of Navarre Medical School. The thesis was the Efficacy of methylphenidate to relieve fatigue in patients with advanced cancer. Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial stratified according to fatigue severity.

I arrived in September to UK with the aim of increasing my understanding in Palliative Care Research and going through the experience of working in a Hospice.

Teaching 

· Teacher collaborator for Family Medicine and Primary Health Care residents from 2008 to 2013. 

· Responsible for teaching at Palliative Care Unit of San Juan de Dios Hospital in Pamplona 2011-2013

· Clinical associate professor of the School of Medicine, University of Navarre from 2007. From 2012 to 2014 responsible of medical students of University of Navarre staying in palliative Care Unit.

· Collaborating professor Palliative Medicine Subject, School of Medicine, University of Navarre 2015, 2016 y 2017. 

· Collaborating professor Clinic communication skills subject, School of Medicine, University of Navarre 2016 y 2017.

· Collaborating professor Pain Psychology subject, Faculty of Psychology, University of Navarre 2017. 

· Innovation teaching Project: Clinic communication: a new subject in Medical School. 2016-2017. University of Navarre. 

Collaboration in research projects

• Research collaborator of the ATLANTES program, ICS (Institute culture and society), Navarre University since 2015.

• METILAS Project, multicenter double-blinded placebo-controlled RCT to define the impact and security of methylphenidate in cancer related fatigue.

• Teamwork in Palliative Care SECPAL Workgroup (Palliative Care Spanish Society).
