Improving Our Knowledge: The CoMPASs:IOn programme

Project summary

To improve end of life care for people with advanced dementia and support those close to them.

The Compassion programme involved:

A cohort study of people with advanced dementia and their carers to understand clinical needs towards the end of life
Development of a an integrated, evidence-based intervention that is pragmatic and feasible to improve end-of-life care for people with advanced dementia and support those close to them. This involved consultations with people with mild dementia, family carers, healthcare professionals and commissioners of healthcare services.
Testing of the intervention for feasibility and acceptability in an exploratory implementation study. The study was trialed for 6 months in two care homes in different clinical commissioning groups in London.
