Improving Our Knowledge: The CoMPASs:IOn programme
Project summary
To improve end of life care for people with advanced dementia and support those close to them.
The Compassion programme involved:
- A cohort study of people with advanced dementia and their carers to understand clinical needs towards the end of life
- Development of a an integrated, evidence-based intervention that is pragmatic and feasible to improve end-of-life care for people with advanced dementia and support those close to them. This involved consultations with people with mild dementia, family carers, healthcare professionals and commissioners of healthcare services.
- Testing of the intervention for feasibility and acceptability in an exploratory implementation study. The study was trialed for 6 months in two care homes in different clinical commissioning groups in London.
