End of Life Care for People with Dementia in Taiwan

Effect of home healthcare and palliative care on healthcare utilization and outcomes at end-of-life for people with dementia by using large database research

Project Summary

Our aim is to investigate the effect of home healthcare and palliative care on various healthcare utilization and outcomes at the end of life for people with dementia from a population-based perspective by using nationwide, large dataset in Taiwan

We apply different quantitative methods to analyze the healthcare services and outcomes of a large cohort of people with dementia from Taiwan’s National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD). The diagnosis of diseases and comorbidities is based on International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-9-CM) codes. The results of our research may provide  insight and evidence of current effects of home healthcare and different types of palliative care for people with dementia in clinical practice and, inform policy making.
