Marie Curie Palliative Care Research Department

We focus on palliative care for patients with dementia and 'hard to reach' groups, systematic reviews, prognostication, communication and symptom control in end-of-life care.

The Marie Curie Palliative Care Research Department, London (MCPCRD) was established in 1999. It is now based in the UCL Division of Psychiatry where it has expanded rapidly.

Our mission is to help people and their families living with a terminal illness make the most of the time they have together. This is by advancing our knowledge on best care by delivering and disseminating world class research. The MCPCRD's main research themes include palliative care for patients with dementia, palliative care in 'hard to reach' groups, systematic reviews, prognostication, communication and symptom control in end-of-life care. As well as receiving both core and programme funding from Marie Curie the department undertakes research funded by the National Institute for Health Research and by research Charities such as the Alzheimer's Society.
