Literature review
We will undertake a systematic literature review to investigate the utility of structured medication review as a means of optimising psychotropic drug use. The protocol for the review is available here.
Qualitative work
In our qualitative work we will speak with people with intellectual disability, family carers, paid (staff) carers, and specialist psychiatrists to gain an understanding of the processes of psychotropic medication decision making. We will hear people's experiences of being prescribed psychotropic medication and their views on how to develop collaboration and shared decision making between professionals and services users and their supporters.
Our participant information sheets are available (click on the links below to access):
- Accessible participant information sheet
- Family carer participant information sheet
- Staff carer participant information sheet
- Psychiatrist participant information sheet
We are currently recruiting. Please contact us if you would like more information or to discuss involvement in this research.
Feasibility trial
The later stage of the project is a small trial where we will investigate the feasibility of using a new computer programme in meetings where decisions about psychotropic medication are made. Further details will be available in due course.
