Student Shadowing Scheme

The Student Shadowing Scheme is an exciting opportunity for year 12 students to come into UCL and experience what life is really like as an undergraduate student.

 Students who attend will:

  • Accompany a current undergraduate student to a lecture (and maybe a seminar/tutorial too) in a subject area that they are interested in
  • Be taken on a tour of the UCL campus
  • Be able to chat to a current student about life at university
  • Receive information about well-being and/or financial support available while studying at UCL

The shadowing day is free. Lunch will be provided and travel costs will be covered if required.

Entry requirements

This scheme is available to year 12 students who attend a non-selective state school, and who meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • have a disability
  • are a young carer
  • are a forced migrant (e.g. refugee or asylum seeker)
  • are estranged from parent(s)
  • currently live or have lived in local authority care

We will also take into consideration our general eligibility criteria

The application form is now open. Students who are successful in their application will be contacted by the Access and Widening Participation team to arrange a day to shadow an undergraduate student between 8th January and 23rd March. Timings will vary depending on academic timetable.

Please note that places are limited and that meeting the eligibility criteria unfortunately does not guarantee that we will be able to offer you a shadowing day.

We cannot process applications after Sunday 4th March.

UCL degree programmes

  • As part of the application form, we will ask you what subject area you are interested in. Please have a look at our prospectus to see what UCL offers.
