CPD session: What happens next? Disclosing a care background on university applications

UCL are hosting a CPD session at the UCL main campus in central London, for staff who support young people in care and care leavers.

We are offering this session on two dates:

Tuesday 22 May, 9.30am - 12.00pm

Wednesday 6 June, 9.30am - 12.00pm

The session will provide you with the chance to find out exactly what happens when a care background is disclosed on a UCAS application form and how a university, like UCL, responds and supports the applicant. You will hear from:

  • Access & Widening Participation
  • Admissions
  • Student Funding
  • Student Accommodation
  • Student Support & Well-being

We will also provide guidance on how you can best support your learners' progression into higher education, particularly with advising and completing the UCAS application and Student Loans form. The session will also touch on the support you can provide estranged students and unaccompanied asylum seeker children, as these groups of students may encounter slightly different obstacles and require more particular support.

Who should attend

This CPD session would benefit any FE or sixth form advisor, but particularly those who are a designated contact for LAC/care leavers in schools. It would also benefit staff within local authorities, including virtual schools and leaving care teams.

To book your place for one of the dates, please complete the online registration form.
