UCL is undergoing some building work ahead of our bicentenary celebrations next year. Here’s the map for our temporary route while the building work is happening.

Follow the suggested tour, looking out for UCL Ambassadors along the way, who will be able to help direct you and give you additional information.
You'll find UCL Ambassadors at:
- The main campus gate by the UCL Engineering building
- The top and bottom of the South Junction stairs
- Outside the Refectory and Bentham Room
- By Jeremy Bentham in the UCL Student Centre
- By the Students' Union
1. Torrington Place to South Junction
Start your tour on Torrington Place with the Waterstone’s bookshop behind you and Engineering Front Building in front of you.

Walk through the black gates onto the UCL campus and walk along Malet Place, past the UCL Engineering Building immediately on your left and then Malet Place Enginering Building is next - just before the Institute of Making. Some of you will have classes in the Malet Place Enginering Building.

Keep walking, past the Institute of Making, the Science Library, the Petrie Museum and under the arch.

You will see the Print Room Café.

Turn right at the Print Room Café.
Enter the South Junction (on your left), and walk up the steps which are opposite the shop. This usually gives access to the Cloisters and entrance to the Main Library but is currently closed.

The Main Library can only be accessed by going up to the first floor (going up two flights of stairs - following the signs).

Enter the Main Library and find the 'IT Help Desk'. Speak to them if you have any enrollment issues.

Afterwards go back down to the South Junction entrance - where you entered the building from - and turn left.

2. South Junction to the Japanese Garden

Walk past the Bernard Katz Building.
Turn left and walk under the building - you will see the Wilkins Refectory (canteen) at the end. The back of the Student Centre is on your right.
To the left of the Wilkins Refectory (canteen) you will see the entrance to the Jeremy Bentham Room. This is where you will collect your ID card tomorrow! It may be closed now.

Just before you reached the canteen there were some stairs on your left, walk up them (see photo above).
3. Japanese Garden to the Student Centre

You are now in the Japanese Garden, sit down if you need a break!

Then turn left and walk into the Student Centre. This is open 24/7 and has a wide range of facilities.

Walk down the stairs and make sure you say hello to Jeremy Bentham (on your right) before you walk out onto Gordon Street.

Turn left and walk past the Bloomsbury Theatre – where you can also find Bloomsbury Fitness upstairs – and up to the 25 Gordon Street (Students Union UCL). This building also includes the Maths 500 lecture theatre used on the Summer School.
4. Student Centre to the Students' Union

Turn left and walk along to the other end of Gower Place and to 136 Gower Street (the Lewis Building). On the ground floor of this building is the George Farha Cafe and in the basement you will find Mully’s Basement bar, where the Summer School quiz night and karaoke takes place.
5. Students' Union to Bedford Way

Turn left and walk down Gower Street past the Cruciform Building (the red brick building - where you had the welcome session).

Continue walking down Gower Street until you’re back at Waterstones.
If you have classes in 1–19 Torrington Place, you could turn right here and check the building.
If not, turn left and walk past Malet Place. Keep walking along to 26 Bedford Way. The UCL Summer School office is room LG09 in this building.

If you have not already passed the building where your classes will be held, go and find that building!
6. Heading to the Welcome Reception
End the day by joining the Summer School team and other students at the Welcome Reception in the Institute Bar in the Institute of Education.

You will need to enter through the back of the building following the path below from Gordon Square. Please remember to bring ID with you as this will be checked on arrival!
