Meet the Summer School team and learn how to connect with other students ahead of the start of the programme.
Meet other Summer School students
We are using the Goin’ UCL app to offer you a safe and secure environment to connect with your future classmates, find friends with similar interests and talk to current and incoming undergraduate students at UCL!
Search “Summer School” in the Groups tab to find our Summer School specific groups.
We have a group for each session and for each of the residences offered on the Summer School, so you can connect with other students in the same accommodation.
In addition to the Summer School groups, you can join existing groups across the platform to connect with current full-time undergraduate students at UCL.

Meet the Summer School team
Rhod Fiorini - Head of Programme
Hi! I’m the Head of the Summer School so I oversee all teaching and learning on the programme and have overall responsibility for ensuring your time at UCL is both successful and enjoyable!
I’ve been working here since 2016 when the Summer School launched (with just 99 students in the first year) so it’s been great to watch it grow over the years and meet so many students – looking forward to meeting you too!
Hometown: Bromley (on the border of southeast London and northwest Kent, known mainly for being the hometown of David Bowie)
Likes: Bromley FC, dub reggae, walking my dog
Three London recommendations: Summer is the best time of the year to be in London for lots of reasons. Here are a few summer-specific suggestions:
- Have drink in (or outside) London’s oldest wine bar Gordon’s and then walk across Waterloo bridge at sunset
- Take a river cruise from Westminster Pier to Kew Gardens
- Go to a music festival
Favourite place to eat on or near UCL campus: Hare and Tortoise in the Brunswick Centre (all the food is good but I usually go for the roast duck or laksa)
Hannah Courtney - Programme Administrator
Hi everyone! I joined the Summer School team in January 2025 and it’s my role to help assist with any queries you may have, and to ensure your application to the Summer School runs as smoothly as possible.
I am looking forward to meeting you all when you join us in the Summer!
Hometown: Grantham (a small market town in Lincolnshire in the East Midlands). I now live in Stevenage which is just outside of London.
Likes: Reading, long walks outside, spending time with family and friends and eating good food.
Three London recommendations:
I’d always recommend going to see a show if you have time whilst in London. There’s lots of different theatres to choose from and a huge variety of shows to see.
China Town is great if you’re looking for somewhere to eat. A well as great food it also has a really fun atmosphere.
Visit Mr Fogg’s for a cocktail. There are several different Mr Foggs bars across London, all with a different theme. My favourite is the Botanical Tavern in Fitzrovia.
Favourite place to eat on or near UCL campus: Pizza Union near Kings Cross Station
Graham Knight - Programme Manager
Hometown: Middlesbrough, a large industrial town in the Northeast of England. Now resident in Lewes, a lovely little town near Brighton, after many years living in London.
Likes: Comic books, science fiction novels, movies, comedy telly and radio, heavy metal, sleep.
Three London recommendations:
Get out of central London, take a tube to Richmond, feed the ducks, go up Richmond Hill for the view.
Get out of central London, catch a train to Blackheath, have a Nepali curry, walk down to Greenwich through the park.
Get out of central London, enjoy a tube ride to Brixton, eat some plantain, watch a gig at Brixton Academy.
Favourite place to eat on or near UCL campus: Busaba (Thai food, have the squid)
Meredith Barrett-Kelly - Administrative Assistant
I joined the Summer School Team at the start of this year, after previously working with the UCL Welcome and Estates teams.
Hometown: Manchester, well worth a visit on the weekend!
Likes: Reading, gardening and volunteering.
Three London recommendations:
1. Kew Gardens - you can easily spend all day here and they often have flower festivals and exhibits on show that you can book tickets for.
2. Words on the Water - a canal boat turned bookshop with a resident parrot!
3. Chinatown for their bakeries - my favourite is Kowloon bakery.
Favourite place to eat on or near UCL campus: 49 Café for their pasta of the day.
