UCL Institute of the Americas is a leading, multidisciplinary, specialist institution and the largest centre in the UK for the study of Latin America, the USA, Caribbean and Canada. It acts as a focal point in the UK for students and researchers seeking to develop in-depth regional and continental knowledge of the Americas. The institute overlooks the gardens of Gordon Square. It is within a 10-minute walk of the British Museum and, in addition to UCL’s own world-class library collection, it is close to other major collections, including Senate House Library and the British Library.

The History and Politics of the Americas programme offers an innovative curriculum that aims to provide understanding of the historical, political, social and international issues concerning the Americas. Our teaching combines education in history, social sciences, research methods and language competence to prepare students for a wide range of global careers.

Teaching and assessment
Teaching is based on lectures, seminar discussions, workshops and individual coursework feedback. Assessment will be based on various types of written coursework and formal examinations, with learning also evaluated through speaking contributions and oral presentations.
