Information for Prospective Students

Dean's Prize

The Dean's Prize supports overseas fee-paying students who have won a competitive scholarship (or are intending to apply for China Scholarships Council funding - see IMPORTANT NOTE below) to cover their stipend, by waiving the international fees.

The Dean’s Prize is available only to students wishing to pursue research degrees in the Faculty of Engineering Sciences or the Faculty of Mathematical & Physical Sciences.

Applications for the Dean's Prize should be submitted by the candidate's prospective supervisor to the appropriate Faculty Graduate Tutor by Friday, 25 January 2019 and must include the following information:

For Mathematical & Physical Sciences (MAPS) students

  • Short (1 page maximum) description of the proposed research project
  • CV of the candidate
  • Written confirmation by the relevant Head of Department that they support the submission and agree to the shortfall in their budget due to the waiver of fees
  • Two references from colleagues external to UCL (these may be the references supplied with the candidate’s PhD application). If your department is submitting more than one application, applications must be ranked in order of preference by Departmental Graduate Tutors before submission.

For Engineering Sciences (ENG) students

Successful candidates will be notified by email by 22 February 2019 of their award.  An official funding letter will be provided which should be used to complete the CSC online application process before the CSC's deadline of 1 March 2019.  If you do not hear from us by 22 February 2019, you may assume that your application was unsuccessful. 

Successful CSC applicants can expect to be notified of their final award in May.
